The Last House On The Left.

Some friends had told me about this film, when I say about this film, I mean the rape scene in this. ‘After kidnapping and brutally assaulting two young women, a gang led by a prison escapee unknowingly finds refuge at a vacation home belonging the parents of one of the victims — a mother and father who devise an increasingly gruesome series of revenge tactics.’ This is a tough film, especially at the start, when Mari and Paige meet Justin and (stupidly) go back to his hotel room for ‘some good shit’, they meet his family too who definitely aren’t the nicest people. They take them out to the forest near Mari’s holiday home, the last house on the left, where they are definitely not just going for a picnic. When out there Mari and Paige try to escape but are caught and tied up, what happens next is not nice. Mari has to watch her best friend get stabbed and slowly die in her arms while the gang stand and watch until they move onto her. I can do a lot of gore, I enjoy gore but rape scenes are something that just are

n’t pleasant in any way, I was told that the rape scene in this is long and it is. It is graphic, it’s not the worse one I have ever seen, (I have seen This England, the film and the programme. Now that is a horrendous rape scene), but as I said, this is a rape scene is so unpleasant no matter how it is gone about. This scene is graphic in that you see nearly everything, you see bare bums from both characters, Mari is held facedown and you see from behind, you see from far off. It is not for the faint hearted like any scene like this, and it is long, I will not lie, it is long and harsh. Spoiler. When Mari escapes you want her to run for her life, what you have just seen was terrible, you want to help her run quicker. She starts swimming for her life but gets shot before she can make it to safety, this is when your heart drops for her, it makes it worse that they leave her for dead. Justin is the one out of the gang who knows all this is wrong, yet he can’t speak up until right at the end.

I was impressed by The Last House on The Left, I wasn’t expecting too much as it is a remake of an old film and normally remakes aren’t the best things but actually, I enjoyed this. I did get into it, even the harsh part at the beginning but I knew that was coming, it’s a main part of the whole story. It’s obviously not an Oscar winner but it was good. It’s a film that makes you think, ‘If bad people hurt someone you love, how far would you go to hurt them back?’. It makes you consider what you would do in this type of situation, if someone hurt someone you loved, would you fight fire with fire? Turns out, I would, and I hate confrontation but the gang is horrible and what they do is horrible. Someone who wouldn’t hurt a fly would be angry and would definitely fight fire with fire. Mari’s parents take this whole situation into their own hands but they have no choice I feel, I feel it was right, they were stranded, they may have been murdered themselves, the gang left their daughter for dead. All signs of this pointed to that it was the right thing to do. And I agree.

The Last House On The Left is not an overly gory and violent movie, well I didn’t think it was anyway. There are a lot of punches and furniture thrown throughout the movie which is normal in any film with action. There is not a lot of violence and gore but when it comes, it comes. Spoiler. The gore is graphic, when Paige is stabbed, it is slow and close up. You see as the knives go in and then out again. When Mari is shot, you see the spray of blood and the water turning red. As the parents get their own back, one of the gang is shot in the eye, one has his hand mauled by the sink disposal and the best death is definitely right at the end. The gang leader, and Justin’s dad, is paralysed from the neck down (how, I’m still don’t know, I’m not a doctor) with his head in the microwave. The microwave is then turned out and his head explodes. The End. It is a very good ending, but the trailer gives it away.

Overall, I did enjoy this movie, it’s not Oscar-winning but it’s good. It’s a good ‘what would you do?’ and good over coming evil movie. Karma kicks butt in the end. Yay Karma!
